Horse Gulch Durango | by Boulder, Colorado Architects – Fanas Architecture

This house enjoys a truly wonderful site, in a fairly wind-protected canyon. The softly, sweeping, curved walls and forms, are generated by an intuitive response to direct the views to the La Plata’s in the distance. The clean simple lines of the contemporary wood members are placed in contrast with the rough capped stone walls, reminiscent of the many Anasazi ruins found in the area. As with most homes in the Colorado mountains, the environment is perfect for the open, covered outdoor living room. Our architects designed the project to meet LEED Gold standards – the home incorporates numerous reclaimed and/or recycled materials. Placing the stair along the south-facing glass wall provides direct natural daylight to the lower level of the home.
